Sojourn Thru a Concrete Jungle

Kaleb and I are taking our crew to Chicago for a little post holiday adventure!! Yay- I am so excited! This will be our first time ever really exploring a city with kiddos, which means it's been a long time for the both of us too.

It seems the teensiest bit scary with a bundle of small children in tow, there is so much unknown. Which, if you take away the daunting aspect of it all, is really quite thrilling.

In my head I've always thought I would be best suited for city life, but in reality, farm life is probably much more my pace. Still, this will be a perfect opportunity for a small sampling.

We have plans to explore museums, ice-skate, sight see, and eat! I'm probably most excited about the food, but it all sounds quite dreamy.

If you have any recommendations for places to go and see or do or any ideas for traveling in a city with a gaggle of littles, send them my way!

Until then, hope your prepping and planning and holiday festivities were everything one could hope!

  4. That sounds like such a fun adventure! I have always felt the same way about city life. I still think I would love it, but only for a short time or in small doses. I hope the trip is everything you dream for it to be and more!

  7. Have a lovely trip! My grandfather worked for the railroad, so my grandma made a point to get me, my sister, mom, aunts, and 4 other cousins on a train from KS to Chicago one summer. I was 14 and it was really fun! I always thought I would be well suited to the city too. Though after Seattle... I'm not so sure, and on every trip we take I am always SO happy to be back in the friendly Midwest! :) In Chicago, we really loved: Chinatown.... so much to see! The Art Institute... It's my thing! and This place called 'Billy Goat's' - a restaurant underground (i think) that has world famous cheeseburgers.... which I don't even really like. But I remember it being the coolest experience. All of my relatives wanted to go there because there was an SNL skit about it a long time ago. :) I haven't been back since, but I would love to. I hope that you have a lovely time! XO -Alexandra

  9. That sounds like soooo much fun, but sadly the only Chicago recommendation is for a restaurant that I visited last month...not really kid friendly. The Purple Pig. It was delicious and maybe next time for a mom and dad getaway you two could venture there.
I do remember a post from James at Bleubird blog and their trip to Chicago. I've attached the link for you...hope it helps (http://bleubirdblog.com/2013/11/our-recent-trip-to-chicago/).

  11. I have never been to Chicago, but it must be freeeezing there now! How exciting to go there with the kids and how great for them to have the opportunity to see how people live apart from farmlife. Where did you grow up by the way? Intrigued now because you said you thought you were more suited for city life...

    1. Ha- funnily enough I grew up in Alaska, and have only dreamed of city life. It is absolutely freezing here!! We have so not been prepared and thus far the trip has been absolutely hilarious!! It is fairly obvious that we come from a farm;)

  14. "I've fallen into a beautiful place of peace, a place, where I know what is most important and what I really desire in my heart of hearts, and I see that I have it already, and that makes life pretty sweet." i could frame that somewhere in my house - your beautiful spirit and the way you make a home for your sweet family is endlessly inspiring <3
