hear me roar

It's amazing how quickly life passes by. In my head I'm still just a wee little lass with long blonde hair and gray eyes, but lately the mirror has been reflecting someone else. Someone much more grown up- and it's hard.

I understand all along, that aging is part of the process, but somehow I'm just relizing it. In my youth I thought I was invincible, like nothing or no one could touch me, I was free and on the go always. Never pausing to mess with skincare or make-up, sunscreen or wrinkles. never once stopping to think that I may have to pay for these careless years later down the way. And while there are certainly aspects of that school of thought that I still admire and carry with me, it's finally all starting to collide.

Lately I have been too hard on myself, wanting to hide yet desperately wanting to shine, picking apart every flaw and meeting myself with criticism and distrust instead of love. My body has done some beautiful and amazing things, and produced four of the most gorgeous babes I can imagine, it is strong and lovely and should be celebrated

So, I have decided it's time, if not now- when, really? It's time to make a change, to take a moment and learn about make-up, to mess about with my hair, to play-up my style. To paint my nails, and put on a pair of heels if need be. To wash my face and take care of my body. Drink some water, exercise and to remember that I am a woman- and it's a beautiful thing.

p.s.- In the past month I have been so inspired by Amber from Barefoot Blonde. She is crazy beautiful and has amazing hair tutorials and make-up suggestions, but it's mainly the emphasis she places on taking care of yourself that spoke so much to me.

  3. Well, I have to say that I thought you looked absolutely stunningly beautiful in those photos! But I know what you mean, as I get older there are days when I revel in the freedom of being an adult and making my own decisions, but there are also a lot of days when I have to remind myself that I'm an adult and my actions have real consequences, whether it's saving money and not buying that dress so that we have an emergency fund for the future, or putting on sunscreen so that my skin continues to stay young. Lately I've been making a big effort to drink more water, make my food from scratch (what?), and get a little more exercise in. It all makes a difference down the road. I think it's great that you have decided to accept your body and yourself for who you are. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!

  5. I'm so happy you stopped by my blog, because now I've discovered yours! I can really relate to this post, and I think self care is so necessary, but something we all skimp on more often than not. Here's to treating ourselves better + putting more care into ourselves :)

  6. Don't be hard on yourself, honestly, i think you're much better looking than Amber. You are so natural and I love that. And your hair color with your tan looks amazing!

  8. Such a beautiful post. Your thoughts on your body and womanhood are so aspirational and inspiring. That being said, you are absolutely gorgeous in those photos! x

  9. Such a lovely post and so inspiring - I agree, we all need to take care of ourselves and appreciate our bodies….we are all strong and capable of doing anything we believe and put our minds to - time goes by far too quickly and we need to enjoy every moment in our lives.

You look beautiful in the pictures though so there's nothing to worry about but I agree about taking care of our bodies, exercising and generally doing little things that will count in the long run.

    Beautiful family sweetie! :)

  13. i'm not a mom, but i've heard other mention that mom's take so much care of their children, husbands and others that they neglect themselves. always put yourself first, because without you there would be no one to take care of them (at least not in the same way). you're a beautiful woman! treat yourself some kind of way EVERY day! you deserve it. i had a demanding job! and lost track of new fashion and makeup. i started blogging a couple of years ago and it's got me back on track. i'm so glad you reached out to me on my blog. let's definitely be blog buddies :)

  14. I think I am about the 19th person to say this, but you are a natural beauty! I totally agree with the sentiment though (take care of yourself). Life is like an airplane crash, the only way you are going to be effective is if you put on YOUR oxygen mask first!

  16. I understand where you are coming from. I mean, I'm not a mom yet, but as we get older it's easier to see the aging process happening. You are definitely naturally gorgeous already. So that's helpful. :)

  17. That "self-care" value is one that's been speaking loudly to me for the last seven years or so. It's made a difference in the quality of my life. Lovely pics! T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  18. what a beautiful post. i can relate to your 'enjoy life and let your beauty shine on it's own' mentality, but i do start to worry that beauty philosophy won't always work. i'm experiencing my first pregnancy now, and it's already startling how many things just happen to your body without your control. body changes are alarming, but there's beauty in the process <3
